A competition entry for a new civic space at the heart of this community. The scheme included the removal
of existing street furniture clutter, the car park, the dividing hedge and sections of the
boundary wall, opening up views to the church, creation of high quality paved space for
informal use/farmers' market and new tree planting. The design was inspired by the 2005 tornado which
started in this churchyard and which went on to devastate a large area of East Birmingham.
The scheme seeks to symbolise the regeneration of the affected communities. Proposals
include incorporation of public art elements into the fabric of the scheme.
