Installation of a small garden, on a less than inspiring site, at a sheltered housing complex run by the
Birmingham based housing charity, St Basils. The brief was to create a place where the young adult
residents could meet and their children play safely in a fully enclosed space. The Landscape Architect
worked with both staff and residents to develop a general layout and agree the detailed design elements of
the garden while making extensive and imaginative use of recycled materials. Though this award winning
scheme included a piece of fixed play equipment the whole space includes informal play elements such as
a peek-a-boo enclosing timber wall and a stainless steel water feature. Children at the onsite nursery were
involved in producing ceramic tiles used to decorate the circular screen wall.
