About Us.

Birmingham based, Land Care Associates Limited (LCA) provides ecological and landscape design services to local authorities, public bodies, architects, construction companies, private individuals and businesses throughout the Midlands region. Through its own staff and a network of specialist sub-consultants LCA has access to a large pool of experience and acknowledged leading experts in particular fields.

Our aim is to provide clients with a cost effective, efficient and professional service focused on finding innovative sustainable solutions to problems, from the inception to the completion of projects.

Our ISO 9001 accreditation ensures that all work is executed to a uniformly high standard and that it dovetails with the clients own quality systems. LCA is a Landscape Insitute registered practice and a member of the Association of Wildlife Trust Consultancies (AWTC). Great emphasis is placed in the company on the training and professional development of its personnel.

As a company limited by guarantee LCA a portion of their annual income to the Wildlife Trust for Birmingham & the Black Country to assist in the protection and enhancement of the nature conservation resource of the West Midlands conurbation.

Mark Stefan

Consultancy Manager / Principal Landscape Architect
BSc (Hons), Dip LA, CMLI

A Chartered Landscape Architect with twenty five years experience in the public, private and charity sectors, during his career Mark has liaised extensively with ecologists on large scale projects in relation to a wide variety of protected species. He has been involved in the landscape design of a wide variety of schemes as well as the production of an Environmental Impact Assessment for a major capital infrastructure project and possesses particular expertise and experience in relation to project management, land reclamation, ecological landscape design and the design of Natural play environments. Since joining LCA, he has participated and overseen the delivery of wide variety of ecological consultancy work, including a large EIA and a borough wide phase one survey. Mark undertakes BREEAM / CSH assessments for projects, produces landscape management plans for clients and has been selected to be an assessor for the Wildlife Trusts Biodiversity Benchmark. He is currently studying by distance learning for an MSc in Forestry and Forest Products at Bangor University and is a member of the Royal Forestry Society.


Martin Burgess

Senior Consultant Ecologist
BA (Hons), BSc (Hons) AIEEM

Martin obtained a 1st class degree in Ecology and Nature Conservation from Anglia Ruskin University. He is extremely experienced in the carrying out of phase 1, NVC, tree, great crested newt, bat and breeding bird surveys, in addition to the undertaking of recording, species translocation and ecological clerk of works activities for major construction projects in the Midlands and the South-East of England. Martin has extensive experience of liaising with local authorities and other relevant bodies in relation to ecological matters, has excellent report writing skills and is a Construction Skills Certification Scheme card holder. His newt licence application is currently being processed by Natural England.


Mike Poulton

Consultant Ecologist

MIEEM

A nationally well regarded, experienced and knowledgeable botanist, with extensive experience in the undertaking of extended Phase One Habitat and NVC Surveys in a wide variety of situations. He has collected over 50,000 records in connection with the Birmingham and Black Country Flora project and been the author of a dozen botanically related published works. He is a newt licence holder and has particular expertise in relation to invasive species such as Japanese Knotweed. Since joining LCA, Mike has additionally been involved in the preparation of management plans and SINC/SLINC reviews as well as the undertaking of hedgerow and a variety of protected species surveys. Mike is an active member of Sandwell Naturalists Club (Sandnats) and has a gift for communicating his love and knowledge of the natural world with a wide audience.


Adam Atkins

Landscape Architect
BA, Dip LA, MLI

Adam has over five years experience in delivering community landscape projects from inception to completion. He is proficient in the use of Autocad and other packages such as Sketch Up and IIlustrator. Adam is currently studying to become a Chartered Landscape Architect, and also a qualified arboriculturist. In his spare time Adam leads a community environmental group belonging to the Shire Country Park Friends in south Birmingham, and is currently collaborating with Birmingham Park Rangers to establish a community scything team in the city.
